Preferred academic title: Licenciado (or equivalent) or Master (European) in Biology, Marine Sciences, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Food Science and Technology or similar

Short description of the research line:
Because of their contents of polysaccharides and other components, macroalgae have a high potential as a base for functional feeds for species cultivated in aquaculture. Knowledge on the dynamics of these components in the algae and the variables that controls them is still scarce however. The objectives of this thesis will be the exploration of natural populations of macroalgae and study the seasonal dynamics of components of interest for the production of functional feeds and analyse the production of these components in a selected number of macroalgae cultivated in integrated aquaculture systems (IMTAs) in relation to variables as light, temperature and nutrient load.

We positively evaluate:
* Knowledge of macroalgal or plant ecology and ecophysiology
* Experience with macroalgal cultivation and experimentation
* Experience with methods to measure macroalgal growth and production (growth rate, photosynthesis, PAM fluorimetry)
* Theoretical and practical knowledge of various analytical methods for biochemical compounds (photospectrometry, gas chromatography, HPLC, TLC, other)
* Good verbal and written knowledge of English
* As you are going to work in an almost exclusively spanish speaking environment, a working knowledge of spanish and the willingness to learn the language are essential
