JOB: SENIOR ANALYST - MICROBIOLOGY - ALGAE (IN NEW ZELAND)
An opportunity has arisen for a senior analyst specialising in algae/cyanobacteria analysis within the Microbiology Department of Watercare Laboratory Services, Auckland.

The appointed person would be involved in correct identification of target species from freshwater samples. Currently algal cell counts are carried out using the Utermohl sedimentation technique. Correct identification of target species is critical when determining a management strategy.

The ideal candidate shall have the following:  · Tertiary qualification, preferably postgraduate, with knowledge of algae analysis, from a recognised University.  · Appropriate laboratory experience/skills.  · Multi-skilled in the classical microbiology and algae analysis.  · Well-developed diagnostic and trouble shooting skills.  · Data analyses, interpretation and reporting skills.  · Ability to transfer knowledge and skills to others and evaluate training effectiveness.  · Communication (both oral and written) and inter-personal skills  · Organising ability/skills.

PH.D. OPPORTUNITIES AT THE LEIBNIZ CENTER FOR TROPICAL MARINE ECOLOGY (ZMT), GERMANY - ALL NATIONALITIES ELIGIBLE
Applications are invited for 2 Ph.D. positions at the Leibniz Center for Tropical Marine Ecology (ZMT) (www.zmt-bremen.de) in Bremen, Germany in the field ecology of coral reefs. These positions are within the framework of the research project FORCE "Future of Reefs in a Changing Environment" funded by the European Union. FORCE partners an inter-disciplinary team of researchers from Europe and the Caribbean to enhance the scientific basis for managing coral reefs in an era of rapid climate change and unprecedented human pressure on coastal resources. Applications should be received by February 15th 2010.
