SEAWEED IDENTIFICATION WORKSHOP
Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, 19-23 March 2007
A course on:
· How to identify seaweeds
· How to search the shore effectively for a full species list.
· How to use and understand the professional seaweed identification literature
· How seaweeds can be used in environmental assessment
Offered at different levels to cope with beginners and more experienced workers including those who have attended previous ECSA seaweed workshops
Suitable for:
· Research students and research workers, with or without previous seaweed experience
· Staff in conservation agencies (e.g. SNH, Natural England, CCW, JNCC, EHS)
· Staff in pollution control agencies (e.g. Environment Agency, SEPA, EHS, EPA Ireland)
· Staff in environmental consultancies (particularly those with little or no seaweed experience who wish to improve their knowledge for the Water Framework Directive).
Staff of workshop expected to include:
· Professor Martin Wilkinson: Heriot-Watt University
· Ian Tittley: Natural History Museum
· Dr Clare Scanlan: SEPA
· Dr Emma Wells: Wells Marine Surveys
· Paul Wood: formerly Heriot-Watt University
Most of the above are seaweed specialist members of the Marine Plants Task Team for the Water Framework Directive.
They will be assisted in the field and lab by seaweed researchers from Heriot-Watt University
Cost ranges between £330 and £550 depending on ECSA membership status and accommodation requirements.
