Postdoctoral research position specialised in calcareous nannofossils at the Swedish Museum of Natural History

About the workplace
The Swedish Museum of Natural History is a government agency with a mandate to promote knowledge, research and interest in our world. It is a prominent research institution and Sweden's largest museum. For more than 200 years, the museum has been collecting specimens and data and conducting research on life on Earth. The collections contain more than 11 million plants, animals, fungi, environmental samples, minerals and fossils. All research and knowledge are shared in the exhibitions, Cosmonova and in activities at the museum and digitally.

Work tasks
The postdoctoral researcher will focus on calcareous nannofossils, primarily from the early Mesozoic (Triassic and Jurassic). Responsibilities include examining both traditional calcite-preserved nannofossils and imprint or "ghost" fossils of nannoplankton preserved on organic matter. There is flexibility to explore material from other time intervals, such as the Cretaceous and Cenozoic, based on research interests. The role involves conducting fieldwork for sample collection, followed by laboratory processing to prepare calcareous nannofossils for analysis. The postdoctoral researcher will collect abundance and diversity data using transmitted light and scanning electron microscopy, contributing to a deeper understanding of these microscopic fossils. Additionally, they will analyse findings, publish research in peer-reviewed journals, and present results at scientific conferences.
