[coccoliths] Request for coccolithophore water column abundance data

Dear coccolithophore researcher,

My name is Joost de Vries, and I am a postdoc at the University of Bristol. As part of an ongoing effort, I am compiling coccolithophore abundance data and would appreciate your help!

We are writing a data paper for a call from Scientific Data (see here<https://www.nature.com/collections/aihifjicfa>). The data set aims to be a comprehensive historical record of coccolithophore
abundance and standing stocks. Since this is a data paper, the data will be presented without significant analyses. However, potential applications of this data set include species distribution modelling, ecosystem model validation, and ecological studies on the causes and trends of coccolithophore diversity and distribution.

We are looking for any water column microscopy counts of coccolithophore abundance, including Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), polarized light microscopy (pLM), and light microscopy (LM). Unfortunately, we will not include data sets which do not resolve species, such as flow cytometry.

I have already contacted many of you over the past few years - so if you have sent me data already, that is much appreciated, and you will be included as an author on this paper. However, if you have any new data, aren't sure or have yet to send us data, we would love to hear from you!

We are also contacting some of you directly, so my apologies in advance for the double email.

To allow us to quality-check the data, please get in touch with us ASAP. We will send you a formatting guide and will ask you to send us the data before the 31st of November.
