[coccoliths] Paleontological data collection software

Hi everyone – thanks for the feedback. We will solicit input from the broader paleontological community once we’ve evaluated available products as well as the possibility of developing our own in-house product. Right now we really just want to make sure that we aren’t missing any software packages that are already on the market. We are doing a similar search and evaluation with core description software after management requested a market assessment before moving forward with a DESClogik replacement project For core description we did send out a questionnaire to scientists who have sailed recently, but we have opted not to do that for paleontology at this point given the limited number of “off-the-shelf” products available.

Stay tuned! (And if anyone knows of a product besides Bugwin and Stratabugs, please let me know!

Over the 25 years of its availability, I've found Bugwin most handy, straightforward, and easy to use at no cost.  And, Mitch has always been handy and available to answer any questions.

From my experience, for data collection, it’s a no-brainer...Bugwin. Charting in BW is fine for pdf production from AutoCAD output.  More flexible and robust charting, though, may best be accomplished in Stratabugs, utilizing  converted  Bugwin data.
