Apologies for cross-postings
To all those interested in research involving diatoms and in attending the International Diatom Symposium (IDS2016) in Quebec City this coming summer (21–26 August 2016),
The program and schedule for IDS2016 have now been updated, and we are happy to be able to announce symposium session themes and their chairs, plenary speakers, special workshops and tributes (http://www.cen.ulaval.ca/IDS2016/). We are especially proud to bring together- with the help of the members of both the Local Organizing and International Scientific committees- experts from all fields of research on modern and fossil diatoms, both from marine and freshwater systems, including molecular, physiological, evolutionary, ecological, biogeographic, paleoecological, biomonitoring, systematic/ taxonomic, economic and other aspects of research on diatoms! This should lay the foundations for a most stimulating meeting and interesting exchange of ideas!
This marks the first major step in the organization of the symposium, and it is now time for the first “Call for abstracts” to start thinking about your contribution to the symposium program in the form of oral and/or poster presentations! We have a total of 98 slots for oral presentations. At this time, the organizers cannot guarantee all requests for oral presentations, as we do not yet know how many abstracts will be submitted requesting oral slots. We will do all we can to accommodate all requests. However, posters will receive high priority at the symposium and we will have lots of highly visible space for them. We also would like to point out that we could still accommodate a few additional special sessions. So, if you feel that other topics of diatom research should be covered that are not currently in the program and would like to chair/co-chair and help organize it, then please feel free to contact us at: IDS2016 at cen.ulaval.ca<mailto:IDS2016 at cen.ulaval.ca>. Please have a look at the session themes available so far, and when submitting your abstract to the symposium organizers, please indicate "Contribution to Session + Title" if you can. Otherwise, just send it as is and the organizing committee and session chairs together will decide where to place your presentation. Individual calls for abstracts will be sent out separately by the session chairs shortly. All details concerning the preliminary symposium program, as well as abstract submission and registration forms, are available on the web site at: http://www.cen.ulaval.ca/IDS2016/
The official abstract deadline for both oral and poster presentations is May 1st 2016 at 5 pm (17h00) Eastern Standard Time (EST).
Special workshops (5) are already planned (see web site for more information) and will be organized with workshop leaders over the coming months, and more details announced as soon as possible. Please check our website regularly at http://www.cen.ulaval.ca/IDS2016/ for updates on the symposium program and the post-symposium excursion etc.
Please do not hesitate to contact us for further information, and please mark the deadline for the abstract submission in your agenda.
We are looking forward to welcoming you to Quebec City in August 2016!
Best regards,
The IDS local organizing committee
