1st AFRICAN ANNUAL WORKSHOP AND TRAINING COURSE ON ALGAE
(February 20-22, 2011)
ANNOUNCEMENT & INVITATION
You are invited to the First African Annual workshop & Training course on algae. It will be given by renowned Professors of Phycology. The workshop provides a forum to learn and acquire techniques in various metholodies in different aspects of algal studies. The aim of the workshop is to train staff from various areas of specialization, researchers, agencies, water management companies, other companies, consultancies, research students and overseas researchers in the areas listed below.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
Any person interested in studying or using algae. These include but not limited to researchers, academics, Government officials, Marine scientists, Oceanographers, Energy Center personnel, Zoologists, Hydrobiologists/Limnologists, Water Resources personnel, Biologists, Botanists, Environmental Scientists, Phycologists, Fisheries, Pollution experts, Engineering( Chemical, Hydro, Petroleum), Water works staff, other Scientists and Post graduate Students

· PRIMER 5 SOFTWARE AND SPSS (MDS, ANOVA, PCA, Canonical analysis)
· Ecological indices (Margalef Diversity, Shannon-Wiener Diversity, Pielou, Evenness, Dominance) computation using software packages
A lecture will also be given on ‘Algal DNA Barcoding’ (Phylogenetics) by a lecturer from University of Connecticut, U.S

How do you get to Benin City
Benin has an airport. International flights come into Lagos (preferably) and Abuja. Then take a local flight to Benin where taxis are available to convey participants.
