Combined Training Course on AOAC 2005.06 and NSSP Type IV -approved
Post-column LC method for Paralytic Shellfish Toxins in Puget Sound,WA area
June 23-25, 2010.

Dear Colleagues:

The response was very positive to our announcement of a training course on
the ISSC/NSSP-approved post-column (PCOX) LC method for Paralytic Shellfish
Toxins, and we are proceeding with hands-on training in this method, and
more.

We have had requests for another training course on the pre-column oxidation
method, AOAC 2005.06 which now is referenced in European Directives and also
Codex recognized. Interest in 2005.06 has increased greatly after it was
semi-automated, extended to more paralytic shellfish toxins, and applied to
routine shellfish monitoring in the United Kingdom by Cefas. In response to
this interest our June 2010 training will be a combined course on both of
the HPLC fluorescence methods. Our new session on 2005.06 includes the core
course materials developed by Health Canada (for the first training event in
2006) but with important updates and improvements in the method, including
easy automation, simplified procedures, and speed improvements by Cefas (UK)
and FDA (USA).

To provide enough time for both methods we are going to make use of the
marine toxin lecture sessions at our Pacific NW Section Annual Meeting in
Tacoma, and two days of hands-on lab sessions will follow with
transportation provided to the Seattle-area lab. These two courses benefit
from the combined expertise of Health Canada, Cefas, FDA, and the Canadian
Food Inspection Agency. The cost of the combined course will be the same as
the cost we were to charge for the post-column method alone ($400).
Laboratory course instructors are Stacey (Etheridge) DeGrasse, FDA, and Jeff
van de Riet, CFIA, Nova Scotia, with assistance by Robert Hatfield, Cefas,
UK.. The required dates for the course are June 23-25, 2010, but attendees
are also encouraged to attend the Tuesday June 22 sessions of our Annual
Pacific NW Meeting, to get access to our keynote lectures and additional
training in automated methods, all covered by the lab course registration.

Within a week there will be more detailed information on the course and
registration at http://www.aoacpacnw.com, however lab space is very limited,
so please respond to this email at your earliest convenience to express your
interest. Please use hotmail address for correspondence regarding the
workshop: James_Hungerford at hotmail.com.

We look forward to seeing you in Seattle!
