International Phycological Society Student Grants for Travel or Research

The IPS has initiated a new program of Student Grants, to encourage more students to become members of the society.  The IPS will award up to eight IPS Student Grants of US$500 for travel or research annually.  The awards are for:
a. Travel to meetings including workshops in which the student is presenting work on algae, whether the meeting is phycological or more general (e.g. evolution or ecology).
b. Research projects on algae, which must be student-led with support from the supervisor.
Eligibility of applicants. 
a. Applicants must be graduate students, as verified by their supervisors.  
b. Applicants must be no more than 4 years from the start of their present studies.
c. Applicants must be members of the IPS.
d. For conferences and workshops, applicants must participate with a poster, talk or other significant contribution; for research awards, students must make the proposal.
e. Only one application can be made per calendar year per student.
f. Applicants agree to provide, for the IPS website, a photograph with a paragraph of text on their use of the award.

Applications

a. The application form is available on the IPS website (http://www.intphycsoc.org/).

b. CLOSING DATES are 30 May and 31 December each year, with up to four grants available for each deadline.

The Newton Internacional Fellowship: estancias posdoctorales en el Reino Unido
The Newton International Fellowship scheme will select the very best early stage post-doctoral researchers from all over the world, and offer support for two years at UK research institutions. The long-term aim of the scheme is to build a global pool of research leaders and encourage long-term international collaboration with the UK.
The Fellowships cover the broad range of natural and social sciences, engineering and the humanities. They provide grants of £24,000 per annum to cover subsistence and £8,000 to cover research expenses, plus a one-off relocation allowance of £2,000.
As part of the scheme, all Newton Fellows who remain in research will be granted a 10 year follow-up funding package worth £6,000 per annum.

Programa de Becas Británicas Chevening
Las Becas Chevening, financiadas por el Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores del Reino Unido, son becas que permiten a jóvenes extranjeros realizar cursos de postgrado en el Reino Unido. 
Las becas son ofrecidas por el Gobierno Británico para jóvenes profesionales que deseen familiarizarse con el Reino Unido y obtener nuevos conocimientos con el objetivo de beneficiar a sus propios países. 
Los requisitos para postular a las becas son: tener nacionalidad argentina, tener entre 25 y 35, título universitario de grado, examen IELTS (mínimo 6.5 - modalidad académica) y experiencia profesional. 
Las áreas de estudio que generalmente cubren las becas son: administración pública y políticas públicas, ciencias políticas, economía y finanzas, comunicación y derecho. Las becas cubren pasaje aéreo ida y vuelta Argentina - Reino Unido, el costo de los estudios, asignación mensual para manutención, asignaciones menores para gastos al momento de la llegada y la partida y cobertura médica del National Health Service para becas que superen los seis meses de duración. 
El formulario de solicitud de las becas deberá ser completado online, a través del portal de Chevening. Sólo se aceptaran las solicitudes completadas bajo esta modalidad.

Beca de Doctorado Fulbright - Fundación Bunge y Born
Las Becas de Doctorado Fulbright-Fundación Bunge y Born están destinadas a investigadores jóvenes con el objetivo de que puedan completar sus trabajos de investigación de doctorado en universidades o centros de investigación de Estados Unidos, con la obligación a su regreso y en un lapso de 18 meses, de finalizar y presentar su tesis en la institución local correspondiente. 
Asimismo el becario deberá comprometerse a aplicar y transferir sus conocimientos en beneficio del desarrollo de la ciencia en Argentina.
Todas las disciplinas científicas estarán comprendidas en el concurso, si bien se dará preferencia a aquellas incluidas dentro de las ciencias básicas o experimentales.
Cada beca se otorga por única vez y comprende un pasaje de ida y vuelta al lugar de destino (en clase económica), un estipendio para mantenimiento y seguro de salud. Tendrá una duración máxima de hasta seis meses.

International PhD Fellowship for international students
(Hong Kong Research Grants Council)
The Hong Kong Research Grants Council (RGC) has recently launched a new programme offering International PhD Fellowship for international students to study at any of the eight Hong Kong tertiary institutions. The scheme is rather attractive financially and offers a stipend of no less than HK$ 20,000 (around US$ 2,500) per month for 3 years, plus HK$ 10,000 per year for conference attendance or research related activities. There is no restriction on the field of studies.
