      Nordic Diatomists’ Meeting 
      27-29 April 2009, Övik, Finland 
      Second circular 
      This year’s meeting will be held at the Övik camping centre, which is beautifully located ca. 50 km east of Helsinki at the shore of the Baltic Sea
      (http://tourism.porvoo.fi/en/accommodation/other_accommodation/ovik_camping_centre. You will also get to know the picturesque Porvoo, Finland's second oldest city with its shops and restaurants in the medieval city centre (http://tourism.porvoo.fi/en). 


      Please note that all participants will meet in the center of Helsinki on Monday 27.4.2009 at 11.00 AM, where organized shuttle buses will collect you for transport to Övik.


      After the registration deadline more detailed information will be given concerning the arrival, get together, transport, departure etc. 

      DEADLINES 

      Final deadline for 1) the registration and 2) the submission of abstracts for both oral and poster presentations will be 15.3.2009!

      REGISTRATION

      Please fill in the registration form and return it to jan.weckstrom at helsinki.fi no later than 15.3.2009.

      The registration fee is 200 €. This will include the accommodation, the ice-breaker on Monday evening, all breakfasts, lunches, dinners (excluding symposium dinner) and coffee breaks, sauna, and the abstract volume.

      TENTATIVE PROGRAM 
      Monday – get together in Helsinki and organized transport to Övik. Talks and posters in the afternoon, ice-breaker and sauna
      Tuesday - morning talks/posters, afternoon excursion and symposium dinner in the evening
      Wednesday – morning talks/posters, afternoon walking in old town of Porvoo, evening departure before/after dinner

      ABSTRACTS

      The symposium abstracts will be published in the series of “Publications of the Department of Quaternary Geology University of Turku”. Abstracts should be unformatted, written in English using Times New Roman 12 pt, and should not exceed two A4 pages. Since the abstracts will not be scientifically reviewed, the authors are responsible for the content and the correct use of language in their contribution. All participants giving an oral or poster presentation are asked to send an abstract by e-mail to jan.weckstrom at helsinki.fi no later than 15.3.2009.

      ORAL AND POSTER PRESENTATIONS

      We are looking forward to offers of talks (15+5 min) and posters (10+5 min) covering any diatomaceous topic. Oral presentations should be prepared with PowerPoint. The posters should be not larger than DIN A0 (1189 x 841 mm) and in portrait orientation. 

      ACCOMMODATION

      Övik is capable of accommodating up to 58 visitors. Since the meeting has so far been a small one, this should not turn out to be a problem. Unfortunately only rooms for two, three or four persons are available. Thus, those who wish to share a room with a specific person are asked to indicate it on the registration form. 

      EXCURSION

      The mid-symposium excursion will be organised to the city of Kotka with visits to either 

        1.. the Maretarium aquarium (http://www.maretarium.fi/mare/index_uk.php) 
        2.. Maritime Centre Vellamo (http://www.merikeskusvellamo.fi/en/) 
      Please indicate in the registration form which excursion you will participate. 

      SYMPOSIUM DINNER

      The symposium dinner will be arranged in the old town of Porvoo on Tuesday evening. Please note that the dinner is not included in the registration fee.
