Joint Annual Meeting of

The Phycological Society of America

and

The International Society of Protistologists

5-9 August 2007

Crowne Plaza Hotel

Providence Warwick, Rhode Island

Abstracts for the PSA/ISOP joint meeting are now being accepted at http://psa.abstractcentral.com/ The deadline for abstract submission is 8 June 2007. Participants may personally contribute either one oral or one poster presentation (but there is no limit on the number of presentations made by others that one can be a co-author on).

The meeting registration web site will be available within 10 days and the URL will be announced when the site goes active. The deadline for regular registration will be 5 July (although the field trip has a registration deadline of 30 June). A late registration fee of $50 will be imposed after 5 July. Registration fees are $340 for regular members of PSA and ISOP, $250 for student or retired members of PSA and ISOP, and $440 for non-members of either PSA or ISOP (regardless of student or retired status). These fees cover continental breakfasts each morning, the banquet, three evening mixers with heavy hors d'oeuvres, and all breaks.

For information on making room reservations at the Crowne Plaza Hotel Providence Warwick, go to http://www.ichotelsgroup.com/h/d/cp/1/en/hotel/wrwri?_requestid=179063. A special room rate of $109 per night (for up to four people per room) has been arranged. You must phone the hotel (877-227-6963) and identify yourself with the PSA/ISOP meeting in order to receive this rate. The number of rooms allocated for the meeting is limited, so reserve early to ensure accommodations at the meeting venue. Note that there are no other hotels in walking distance and it is very unlikely that you will get a lower rate at any area hotel. So making reservations early is highly recommended. The hotel is very close to the Providence airport and a free shuttle is available.

Information about the scientific program, society awards, and social activities is available at PSA (http://www.psaalgae.org/ops/psa2007.shtm) and ISOP (http://www.uga.edu/~protozoa/) websites.

Although there are numerous lunch options within a short driving distance of the hotel, there are none in reasonable walking distance. The hotel restaurant will be available for lunch for people who do not have access to car or who choose to stay on site. To reduce waiting times at the hotel restaurant, special lunches can be purchased in advance via the meeting registration web site. These will cost $17.50 each, with a different menu option each day: Antipasto Salad & Pizza on Monday, NY Deli Plate on Tuesday, Grilled Oriental Chicken on Wednesday, and Croissant Creation on Thursday. PSA member students will be treated to lunch on Tuesday as part of a student meeting (so PSA students should not pre-pay for lunch on Tuesday). ISOP will have its business meeting at a luncheon on Wednesday at a cost of $23.50 per person.

PSA is offering an optional field trip on Friday, August 10, to a local marine rocky intertidal habitat. Low tide is around noon and we plan to leave the hotel no later than 9:30 am. The bus trip is about 45 min and will arrive at Beavertail State Park (www.riparks.com/beaverta1.htm). The bus will depart for the hotel no later than 1:30 pm, giving plenty of time to explore and collect. A box lunch is included in the field trip cost. There will be local phycologists available on the trip to aid in species identification. Field trip is limited to 100 people. Deadline for the field trip registration will be 30 June.

For questions about the meeting, contact local organizer Glen Thursby (Thursby.Glen at epamail.epa.gov).
