The Center for Tropical Marine Ecology (ZMT) conducts research on tropical coastal ecosystems aimed at developing
science based management concepts for their sustainable use. It supports capacity and infrastructure building in this field.
The Center invites applications for a three-years Postdoc Position starting June 1, 2007.
Payment will be according to the German Wage Agreement TVL.
Required is a distinct research record in the field of ecophysiology of marine algae. Candidates are expected to
develop research activities on acclimation strategies of marine algae and seagrass under changing abiotic
conditions. Field research in benthic shallow water ecosystems (macroalgal stands, coral reefs, seagrass
meadows) in tropical regions will be an important task of the position. Knowledge of methods in the determination of
primary productivity, photosynthetic activity and pigment analysis as well as protein biochemistry and gene expression
analysis is requested.
Research will be done in cooperation with the Department of Marine Botany at Bremen University. Ability and willingness
to participate in field expeditions lasting several months at field stations in the tropics is a prerequisite.
Comparative studies in other climatic regions are also part of the research program.
A high publication activity as well as initiatives and experiences in fundraising and project management are expected.
A research diver certificate as well as knowledge of Spanish language will be advantageous.
The candidate will also support the supervision of post-graduate students at the ZMT and teaching at the Bremen
University and in the MSc program ISATEC.
ZMT and the University of Bremen promote women in sciences.
