IV European Phycological Congress announcement:

Advances in Phycology: from genes to global ecology and beyond

The IV European Phycological Congress will be held at the Principe Felipe Conference Hall in Oviedo from the 23rd to the 28th of July 2007, hosted by the Sociedad Española de Ficología and the Universidad de Oviedo. The yearly meeting of the Spanish Phycological Society will also take place, simultaneously to the IV EPC, in Oviedo in 2007. 

The Scientific Program includes plenary sessions, symposia and contributed oral or poster presentations. Contributions on all aspects of algal research will be welcome. Symposia, posters and oral sessions will be organized around the following Themes: Genomics and Cellular Biology (convened by Christos Katsaros and Kirsten Heimann), Phylogeny and Taxonomy (convened by Christine Maggs and Ester Serrao),  Global Environmental Change: From Lakes to Oceans (convened by Anita Buma and John Raven), Ecological Interactions and Ecophysiology (convened by Stephen Maberly and Felix López-Figueroa), Biogeography, Biodiversity and Conservation (convened by Juliet Brodie and Hans-Rudof Preisig), Applied Phycology (convened by Matt Dring and Alvaro Israel). Plenary lectures will be given by Ricardo Amils (on Astrophycology), Paul Falkowski (on Global Change), Debashish Bhattacharya (on Phylogeny) and Rene Wijffels (on Biotechnology).
The registration period will be from the 1st of October 2006 to the 30th of April 2007.
