I agree, like the nanno zonations of Jeremiah (2001) and Mortimer (87), designed for offshore and drilling, very useful
All the best,
Emma

I think that Bergen and Sikora worked this zonation up primarily for use in oil exploration. Given that the biostrat is worked from the top down as the well is being drilled then I think that this is perfectly useful for the task it's intended for.

To all, I believe younger colleagues or maybe biologists, if you want your biostratigraphy to be useful, I suggest following some biostratigraphic basic rules such as "Biostratigraphic units are distinct from other kinds of stratigraphic units in that the organisms whose fossil remains define them show evolutionary changes through geologic time...". It means labeling the zones from older (1) to younger (41), not in reverse order, please.

Hi Jeremy,
This is coming from the following reference:
Bergen, J.A., Sikora, P.J., 1999. Microfossil diachronism in southern Norwegian North Sea chalks: Valhall and Hod fields, in: Jones, R.W., Simmons, M.D. (Eds.), Biostratigraphy in Production and Development Geology. Geological Society of London Special Publications 152, Geological Society, London, pp. 85-111.
It is somewhat useful for the North Sea, though mostly with similar events as used in the UC(BP) and UC ('i') zonations
I attach the paper hereby.
Cheers,
Nic

Subject: [coccoliths] KN zonation
Hi
In TimeScaleCreator there is KN nannofossil zonation for the Late Cretaceous, with zones from KN1 at the top of the Maastrichtain to KN40 in Cenomanian. However, I can't find this zonation anywhere else. Does anyone know where it comes from, and if it has any continuing value?
Jeremy
