[coccoliths] Cheap polarized light microscopes

Dear all,
I remember a discussion a few years ago about the availability of relatively cheap polarized light microscopes of a decent quality for the study of nannofossils.
I'd be very thankful if some of you have good advice for the acquisition of such equipment nowadays as well as for good cheap, decent digital cameras.
Best regards,
Nicolas

Subject: [coccoliths] Final call for session proposals EGU2021 (SSP4)

Dear Nannoplankton community,

I was asked to forward this "final call" for session proposals to the EGU General Assembly in Vienna next year April - the deadline for session proposals is on 11 September (next Friday).
In particular, the Sedimentology, Stratigraphy and Paleontology Division (SSP) is looking for more proposals under "SSP4 - Palaeontology, Palaeoecology and Evolution of Life".

We hope you feel inspired by the prospect that EGU is planning on site attendance as well as some virtual components in 2021. Please see details re. the call and submission procedure below.

Best wishes,
Jorijntje

__________

Dear SSP Community,

The EGU General Assembly 2021 (EGU2021) will be held on site at the Austria Center Vienna (ACV) from 25 to 30 April 2021. In addition, virtual components will be provided to enable virtual attendance.
Please check https://egu2021.eu/about/provisional_format_of_egu2021.html<https://eur02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fegu2021.eu%2Fabout%2Fprovisional_format_of_egu2021.html&data=02%7C01%7Cnt%40ign.ku.dk%7Ce21ac18d69974446d06608d851a64d75%7Ca3927f91cda14696af898c9f1ceffa91%7C0%7C0%7C637349122891252837&sdata=Efy8V0XBFXtGhAr39%2Bboa95duSseN3PBFERtJf%2Fj%2FFk%3D&reserved=0> for more information about EGU2021's hybrid format.

We now invite you submit proposals for Sessions (with conveners and a brief description) athttps://meetingorganizer.copernicus.org/EGU2021/programme<https://eur02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fmeetingorganizer.copernicus.org%2FEGU2021%2Fprogramme&data=02%7C01%7Cnt%40ign.ku.dk%7Ce21ac18d69974446d06608d851a64d75%7Ca3927f91cda14696af898c9f1ceffa91%7C0%7C0%7C637349122891252837&sdata=Ypwk7s1G%2FIqSolYzwMDynRe0noDaH%2BdQiSNioHDQqs4%3D&reserved=0>
Deadline for submission of session proposals is 11 SEPTEMBER 2020.

The deadline for suggesting Union Symposia (US) and Great Debates (GDB) is 15 AUGUST 2020. For more information, please see the guidelines at: https://www.egu2021.eu/guidelines/us_and_gdb_guidelines.html<https://eur02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.egu2021.eu%2Fguidelines%2Fus_and_gdb_guidelines.html&data=02%7C01%7Cnt%40ign.ku.dk%7Ce21ac18d69974446d06608d851a64d75%7Ca3927f91cda14696af898c9f1ceffa91%7C0%7C0%7C637349122891262795&sdata=X6wHNNEExvLQhKCabMioV%2BAX5mhgo0oNGjv6r6Tintk%3D&reserved=0>

You have the option to propose either physical sessions, which will be run on site in the traditional oral + poster format, or hybrid sessions called Virtual PICO, which will be a further development of the well-established PICO format that allows both on-site and virtual participation.

PLEASE NOTE
EGU creates a new program every year. This means that sessions from EGU2020 are not automatically transferred to next year... so all session proposals need to be submitted even if similar sessions were run in previous years.

SESSION CONVENERS
We strongly encourage inclusive and diverse convener teams that reflect
(i) multiple countries and institutes;
(ii) different career stages, especially the inclusion of early career scientists; and
(iii) gender diversity.
We ask for a minimum of 2 active conveners (1 convener and 1 co-convener) with a maximum of 5 conveners (1 convener and 4 co-conveners) per session. The EGU allows a maximum of 3 (co-)convenerships total, 1 of which as lead convener. Please confirm with all conveners that they agree to take part in the proposed session and carefully read the convener guidelines at:https://egu2021.eu/guidelines/convener_guidelines_and_rules.html<https://eur02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fegu2021.eu%2Fguidelines%2Fconvener_guidelines_and_rules.html&data=02%7C01%7Cnt%40ign.ku.dk%7Ce21ac18d69974446d06608d851a64d75%7Ca3927f91cda14696af898c9f1ceffa91%7C0%7C0%7C637349122891262795&sdata=JT52qJpMbAZn%2Fjp0ueGsE66jwyvu3ibpG4Xjxc5675Y%3D&reserved=0>

INTER- AND TRANSDISCIPLINARY SESSIONS (ITS)
ITS look for links between disciplines in a coordinated and coherent effort, trying to create new approaches that would not be possible if handled separately. The ITS programme highlights new themes each year. If you plan to propose an Inter- and Transdisciplinary Session, please submit your proposal in program group ITS and indicate other relevant program groups for co-organization. We ask you to identify one other program group that will become the scientific leader of the event. Accepted ITS will be part of the session program of the scientific leader in addition to the ITS program. For more information, please see the guidelines at: https://egu2021.eu/guidelines/its_guidelines.html<https://eur02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fegu2021.eu%2Fguidelines%2Fits_guidelines.html&data=02%7C01%7Cnt%40ign.ku.dk%7Ce21ac18d69974446d06608d851a64d75%7Ca3927f91cda14696af898c9f1ceffa91%7C0%7C0%7C637349122891262795&sdata=xKoBO0%2BABo%2BNrLLV7A7Q5GxJWAKRVcTcFmD1q2nT9no%3D&reserved=0>

Please share this call for session proposals widely. We look forward to receiving your suggestions and to build a strong, diverse and attractive session program from it. Thank you very much in advance.

Kind regards,

Marc De Batist
