[coccoliths] Microscope retailer UK

Thanks for the advice Tom & Jeremy,
I decided to buy a very good, used Zeiss microscope on eBay from the German army stock. It's the classic Zeiss West, Standard 16 and basically unused, including a metal case. The retailer only posted it in German and wasn't willing to send it abroad (out of Germany). Definitely in a much better shape then the "Frankenstein" versions people sell from the US.
Cheers,
Christian

They are compatible with Olympus objectives, so we’ve just brought the GX bodies and added Olympus 100x oil lenses. A good solution for teaching / portable scopes at a reasonable price. Trinocular options and reasonable camera solutions also available with these.

However, a lot of what you pay for with expensive optics are obtaining a wide and strain free field of view - ie no distortion at the edges. As a nannofossil worker these expensive characteristics are a bit of a luxury - what really matters is how sharp the nannofossil is in the centre of the field of view. I have an ancient Leitz Ortholux and whilst the overall field of view is nowhere near as good as on a modern Zeiss or Leitz microscope I can see individual nannos fine.
