[coccoliths] Paleontological data collection software

Hi all,

I’m not a user of either (Stratabugs or BugWin), but have been subject to DESClogik a few times… From conversations with UK industry people, however, it seems crazy that IODP don’t have the same micropaleo data management and long-term databasing capabilities as there are in industry. It seems we’re constantly generating shipboard data that is not easily able to be synthesised and managed for the purposes of the micropaleo community.

The UK people I have contact with seem to be more Stratabugs users.

I would like a solution that could handle a large, long-term data archive that could be easily accessed and managed on-line.

all best
Tom

Hi Denise,

I, too, recommend BugWin and BugCad. It’s a simple program that’s easy to learn and use. Plus, Mitch is always available to help and is open to new ideas to improve the software.

Best,
Marcie

Hi all,

We are starting to explore options for replacing the IODP DESClogik application. As part of this process, we are exploring both off-the-shelf software packages, as well as developing our own in-house products for core description and paleontological data capture.

I’m familiar with Stratabugs and Bugwin; are any of you using other products? We want to make sure we are as inclusive as possible during this initial exploratory phase.

Thanks!
Denise
