at the Stazione Zoologica Anton Dohrn in Naples, Italy.

Within the EU project MIDTAL we will design and test microarrays for the
detection of toxic algae and their toxins. Early detection of
toxic algal blooms is a vital improvement to the monitoring of aquaculture for
human consumption and safety, and microarrays are state of the art technology
for the detection of target RNA/DNA sequences in environmental samples. Duties
of the postdoc will include sampling of plankton RNA- and DNA extraction, study
of the genetic diversity of Pseudo-nitzschia, development/refinement of
molecular probes against Pseudo-nitzschia species, calibration and testing of
these probes, and validation of newly designed microarrays. We seek a post-doc
with research interests in molecular ecology and biodiversity of
micro-organisms, experience in molecular biological approaches and fluency in
English. Working experience with microarray hybridisation techniques and probe
design is preferred. We offer ample possibilities for collaboration and further
development of scientific skills.
Start of project, May 2009; duration, two
years with possibilities for one year extension.
Please contact Dr Wiebe
