Phytoplankton Course (APC9)<BR>Taxonomy and Systematics<BR>will be held at the
Stazione Zoologica "A. Dohrn", Napoli,
Italy<BR>
from 5 to 26 April 2008<BR></B><BR>The Course aims at providing an updated
background for the morphology, <BR>taxonomy, classification and phylogeny of the
most important marine <BR>phytoplankton groups. It will consist of
theoretical and practical <BR>sessions, with the examination of a broad
collection of fixed, live and <BR>slide material. Topics of the Course will
include:<BR>- methods and criteria for species identification<BR>- methods of
molecular and morphological phylogeny<BR>- overview of specialized
literature<BR>- toxic and potentially toxic species<BR>- general and specific
aspects of phytoplankton biodiversity and biogeography<BR><BR><B
style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal">WHO CAN APPLY:<BR></B>The Course will be
open to 20 students. Criteria for selection of<BR>participants will include
their previous experience in phytoplankton<BR>taxonomy (min. 4 years), possible
role as trainers in their respective<BR>countries and involvement in ecological
