<p>Dear colleagues,<br>
I have been invited to edit a special issue on Nanno geochemistry
for MDPI journal Minerals. Very likely that many people received
similar request.<br>
I won't accept it and I recommend not to do it. MDPI economic
model – open access with APC – is based on high flux of edited
papers. Hence, the peer review criteria are often reduced (if
respected) to increase the flux of papers. MDPI also produce a
vast amount of Special Issue and ask many scientists to edit those
to increase the rate of submission by inviting the special issue
editors to make call for submission within their scientific
community. MDPI is a master in this economic model, flooding the
system. Recent calculation in France has shown that mixing
subscription journals model and open access with APC journals
model cost more to institutions than subscription only. Moreover,
a model only based on open access with APC journals model would
cost also more than subscription model only.<br>
Some may say the model is not bad, just trying to make (a lot)
money. But the revision process has been shown to be light due to
deadline pressure by MDPI. And those Special Issue in journal
outside the topic divert submission to classical topical journals
which may lead to some journal disparition. Finally, I am not
defending subscription model. Actually, I defend green and diamond
open access (without APC) models. Model like <a

Community In Journal</a> or <a moz-do-not-send="true"
href="https://oap.unige.ch/journals/sdk/index">Sedimentologika</a>.<br>
This is why I won't accept the invitation from MDPI and I
recommend to everybody not to do it. If you wish to edit a special
issue on that topic, I recommend to contact Denise Kulhanek – new
editor for JNR. She'll be able to help you.<br>
Sorry if by sending my view I hurt anybody but I wanted to rise
this issue to the whole NannoCommunity.<br>
Sincerely<br>
Baptiste Suchéras-Marx<br>

<br>
Dear Dr. Suchéras-Marx,<br>
<br>
We are planning to set up a new Special Issue focused on
"Geochemistry of Calcareous Nannofossils and Coccoliths:
Implications for the Reconstruction of Past Oceanic Conditions"
for the journal Minerals (<a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="http://www.mdpi.com/journal/minerals">http://www.mdpi.com/journal/minerals</a>)
and would like to invite you to be the Guest Editor. <br>
Our editorial office takes care of the entire editorial process
for manuscripts. As Guest Editor, you would be responsible for
making the final decision on whether a paper submitted to your
Special Issue is acceptable or not, after peer review and author's
revision. If you are interested in this project, you may modify
the proposed title to better fit your research interests.<br>
<br>
As Guest Editor, you have the privilege of publishing one paper
free of charge (in open access form) after acceptance. For this
Special Issue, we will invite authors to publish research articles
or comprehensive reviews on this topic. Papers accepted will be
published immediately and gathered together on the Special Issue
homepage.<br>
<br>
Minerals is a peer-reviewed, open access journal of natural
mineral systems, mineral resources, mining, and mineral processing
(indexed in Web of Science, the 2021 impact factor of 2.818). The
aims and topics can be found at
<a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="http://www.mdpi.com/journal/minerals/about/">http://www.mdpi.com/journal/minerals/about/</a>. *JCR category rank*:
8/20 (Q2) in the ‘Mining & Mineral Processing' category,11/30
(Q2) in the ‘Mineralogy’ category and 42/87 (Q2) in the
‘Geochemistry & Geophysics' category. <br>
Should you require any additional information or have any
questions, please feel free to contact us. We look forward to
hearing from you. <br>
Kind regards<br>
